The Taliban took complete control of Afghanistan after President Ashraf Ghani fled the country.

In social media, Ghani was branded as a coward for leaving the Afghan people in chaos. A tweet from the Afghan Embassy in India’s verified account said: “We are all banging our heads in shame.”

Al Jazeera reported that the astonishingly quick collapse of the government, with the Taliban taking over the presidential palace on Sunday night, triggered fear and panic in the capital.

It further reports that thousands of people rushed to the airport trying to flee the country as they feared the Taliban’s hardline rule.
