Myanmar coup: A year of protest

One year since the military coup in Myanmar more than 1,500 people have been killed, according to the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners, which has been monitoring the violence since the start.

The military seized power in Myanmar on February 1st 2021. Leaders, including Aung San Suu Kyi, were arrested and placed under house arrest.  Following the coup, the people of Myanmar took to the streets to protest.

It is estimated that about 1,500 people have been killed by security forces so far, 8,800 have been tortured and are missing, and more than 300,000 have been displaced.

Meanwhile, protest has been organized yesterday to protest the military takeover. Troops have since arrested 12 people.
