Europe could be moving towards the end of the pandemic once the current Omicron wave subsides, the World Health Organisation’s (WHO) Europe Director Hans Kluge says.
“It’s plausible that the region is moving towards a kind of pandemic endgame,” Kluge has told the AFP news agency.
Because of vaccines and prior infections, there will be “a global immunity” against Covid, Kluge says.
But a colleague of Kluge at the WHO has expressed a different view.
The WHO’s technical lead on Covid, Maria Van Kerkhove, told the BBC yesterday the pandemic would not end with Omicron, as new variants could be far more severe.
