Bangladesh plans to vaccinate Rohingya refugees

Bangladesh is planning to launch the Covid-19 vaccination drive to vaccinate the hundreds of thousands of Myanmar Rohingya Muslim refugees living in crowded refugee camps.

“Subject to availability of the doses, we will begin administering the jabs among Rohingya anytime in August,” Shah Rezwan Hayat, chief of Bangladesh’s Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commission, said.

But no specific date has been mentioned for the launch of the vaccination drive.

Initially the focus is to be on some 50,000 Rohingya above the age of 55, to be vaccinated with the help of the UN agencies, according to the media report.
