Residents from the Verugal area of Trincomalee district staged a protest against the illegal mining of sand at Mavadi Senai Nathan Odai today.
The residents worried that the mining activities are placing the agricultural lands and residential areas at the risk of flooding.
The protesting people also said they were displaced from the residential area when the stream got damaged due to the sand mining activities.
