A shooting has taken place inside the Ampara Thirukovil police station. Four Sri Lankan police officers were killed.
Two people, including the officer in charge of the police station, were seriously injured. The police officer who fired the shots has surrendered.
The shooting was carried out by a police sergeant who later surrendered to the Ethimale Police station with two T-56 assault rifles and 19 rounds of ammunition after the shooting. The incident took place last night.
Three died at the scene and another died at the hospital. Two people, including the officer in charge of the police station, were reportedly injured. They were all admitted to the Thirukkovil and Akkarepattu hospitals.
