Tamil MPs meet External Affairs Minister for the release of Tamil political prisoners.

Tamil MPs met with External Affairs Minister Dinesh Gunawardena and Deputy Foreign Minister Tharaka to discuss the release of long-serving Tamil political prisoners.

As there was no response to the letter given to both Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa and President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, the Tamil parliamentarians met the minister to take action on the release of the prisoners.

The meeting was attended by members of the Tamil National People’s Front, the Tamil National Alliance, the Tamil Progressive Alliance, and the Upcountry People’s Front. after the meeting Minister said that he would take care of the matter.

It also demanded the release of those arrested last November on charges of sharing photos on Facebook and detained for the past six months.

There was also talk of the release of eight people from Batticaloa who had been detained during the commemoration of Tamil Genocide Day in Mullivaikkal.

Gajendrakumar Ponnambalam, Selvarasa Gajendran, Sivagnanam Sreedharan, Selvam Adaikkalanathan, Vinokarathalingam, Kalaiyarasan, Ira were present at the meeting. Chanakin, MA Sumanthiran, Charles Nirmalathan, Co. Karunakaram, T. Siddharthan, Mano Ganesan, Radhakrishnan were present in the meeting.
