Sri Lankan police continues to intimidate teachers union members

“In a further move aimed at cowing teachers who on strike for 81 consecutive days, Sri Lanka police have summoned trade union members participated in vehicle parade held on 4 August, to Colombo Fort police station at 10am on Saturday (2),” Journalist for Democracy in Sri Lanka tweeted.

“Police have obtained registration details of vehicle owners from Department of Motor Traffic. Without addressing grievances of teachers, govt.’s action taken two months after the parade show their intent to terrorise & break the strike,” Ceylon Teachers Union said in a statement.
