Sri Lanka: 16 former LTTE cadres released 

Sixteen former cadres of Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam, and 77 other prisoners were released after the Presidential pardon. 

Sri Lankan Prisons Spokesman Chandana Ekanayake said the LTTE suspects have been detained at Anuradhapura and Jaffna Prisons.

Earlier, the Daily Mirror reported that Sri Lanka’s State Minister of Prison Management & Prisoners’ Rehabilitation Lohan Ratwate said, Seven former members of Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) imprisoned for many years are to be released.

The presidential pardon has give as part of the Poson Poya celebrations, a festival celebrating the arrival of Buddhism in Sri Lanka.
