Sinhala friends understood me but the Tamil intellectuals did not: Mano Ganesan

“Give the country for 10 years ..! will back the developed nation in the 11th year ..! ” I said that. These are understood by many Sinhala friends. But some Tamil-speaking “intellectuals” do not understand. They blame me that, “how can we do that, will our sovereignty not be eroded?”

Mano Ganesan, leader of the Tamil Progressive Alliance and a member of parliament, last week made his remarks under the headline, “Give the country 10 years to make progress.”

The issue was seen as a major topic of discussion in the Tamil media. following the two statements, he has sent out the third statement. In the statement, he has said,

“Give the country for 10 years ..! will back the developed nation in the 11th year ..! ” I said that. These are understood by many Sinhala friends. But some Tamil-speaking “intellectuals” do not understand. They blame me that, “how can we do that, will our sovereignty not be eroded?”

And he, in my media cries last week,

(01) “We will oppose the port city ..! But without further ado, let’s think about how we can use the dynamics of the changing world powers ..! ” And,

(02) “Hold the country for 10 years ..! Let’s move forward in the 11th year ..! ” I said that. These are understood by many Sinhala friends. But some Tamil-speaking “intellectuals” do not understand.

(01) First, “Is not the sovereignty of our country being eroded?” The Tamil nationalists blamed me. “Patriotism” is more to me than these. But I have a suspicion.

As Tamils, our governments will never consider us as partners in the sovereignty of Sri Lanka ..! In this case, I do not know why we should shout, “Sovereignty is being lost to China.” That’s what I said.

Aside from not being indifferent, we voted very clearly against it in Parliament. Otherwise, world governments, what are the next steps to be taken about this port city? How can we use them? As I said we just have to look carefully.

(02) Will they then give us the land for ten years? Not at all! Even giving it to their friend Kadirgamar! In fact, I sowed an idea through this. I echoed the sentiment of Tamil minds living all over the country.

My anger is that they made Sri Lanka to the bottom of the table which was once seen high by Lee Kuan Yew and even Mahathir, degraded “Ceylon” in the 1950s by singing the racist slogan “Sinhala-Buddhist only”.

Some of these “geniuses”, will be cross-questioning us that “What did you do in your good governance?”

I am saying everyone who ruled after 1948 is the same Sinhala-Buddhist logs. There was little flexibility in good governance. Using it, we fought back that in four years and did something that we can.
