Signature collection campaign to lift the Prevention of Terrorism Act

A signature collection campaign was conducted by the Tamils demanding the lifting of the Prevention of Terrorism Act that began in Kilinochchi yesterday (05).

The event was inaugurated by the Youth Front in the Sri Lanka Tamil Nation Party. The inaugural event was held at 8.30 am yesterday at the Kilinochchi Service Market premises under the leadership of Tanaraj, the Kilinochchi District Member of the Youth Front of the Tamil Nation Party.

Member of Parliament S. Sridharan, Karachi Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman Velamalikithan, Karachi Pradeshiya Sabha members, businessmen and many others were present at the event.

Meanwhile, Divania’s daughter, who was arrested under the Prevention of Terrorism Act, also attended the event and signed.

Member of Parliament S. Sritharan and Karachi Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman Velamalikithan spoke on the impact of the Prevention of Terrorism Act.

The European parliament adopted a resolution on June 10, 2021 calling for the repeal of Sri Lanka’s Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) and inviting the European Union (EU) Commission to consider temporarily withdrawing access to GSP+.
