Senior Advocate and Human Rights Activist Gauri Sankari Thavarasa, who had been extensively working to free the Tamil youths from prolonged detention, has died after contracting Covid-19.
She was a life partner of Ilangai Tamil Arasu Katchi’s Colombo branch President and President’s Counsel K. V. Thavarasa.
“Advocate Mrs. GauriShankari has assisted the President’s Counsel K. V. Thavarasa in various ways, including legal advice, in the case of prominent Tamil political prisoners such as Kuttimani and Thangathurai, who bravely appears before the court despite the threats of life posed by the rulers.”
