Sri Lankan Opposition MP and Tamil Progressive Alliance leader Mano Ganeshan said that the Provincial Council elections will be held under the former Proportionate system in the first quarter of 2022, as assured by Finance Minister Basil to the electoral select committee today, according to Daily Mirror.
Earlier, India Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla has reiterated India’s position with Sri Lanka on complete implementation of the provisions under the 13th Amendment to the Constitution, including devolution of powers and the holding of Provincial Council elections at the earliest, during his meeting with Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
