Parents staged a protest on Tuesday (27 July) at Moongilaru South Primary School in Puthukkudiyiruppu, within the Mullaitivu Education Zone, demanding the immediate appointment of a teacher for the school’s Grade 3 class.
According to the protesting parents, the Grade 3 students have been without a class teacher for the past seven months, leaving 36 pupils without regular classroom instruction and causing significant disruption to their education.
The parents expressed concern that the prolonged teacher shortage has resulted in serious learning setbacks and warned that the students’ primary education would continue to suffer unless urgent action is taken.
They called on education authorities to appoint either a permanent or temporary teacher without further delay to ensure the children can resume their studies under proper supervision.
Parents also stated that they had repeatedly raised the issue with the Mullaitivu Zonal Education Office but had yet to receive a satisfactory response or solution.
The demonstrators urged the relevant education authorities to act swiftly to resolve the long-standing teacher shortage and safeguard the educational rights of the affected students.
