It has been decided to suspend the Valvettithurai Kite Festival which was scheduled to be held on Thaipongal day (14).
The organizers had decided to hold the annual kite festival at the Udayasooriyan Stadium in Valvettithurai on Thaipongal Day. There have been calls from various quarters to suspend the Kite ceremony this time around for reasons including the growing corona threat.
Meanwhile, The Tamil National People’s Front (TNPF), Tamil Diaspora groups, Tamil activists and other Tamil political parties have condemned an attempt to invite representatives of the genocidal state as guests for the Kite festival.
In this context, the discussion between the Kite committee and the people of the area took place yesterday evening. During the discussion, the people of the area asked to suspend the Kite ceremony in the current situation. Following this, it has been announced that the Kite Festival has been suspended.
