No official communication on suspension of Police Scotland training: Sri Lankan Official

Sri Lanka’s Public Security Ministry Secretary Jagath Alwis said that the Ministry did not receive any official word on the temporary suspension of Police Scotland’s training for the Sri Lankan Police officers.

Earlier, The Times UK reported that the Police Scotland had put a controversial scheme to train officers in troubled Sri Lanka on hold amid criticism from global watchdogs.

“No official communication regarding the matter has reached the Ministry yet,” Alwis told the Sri Lankan Media The Morning yesterday (19).

Earlier, Human Rights Watch urged the international community in connection to law enforcement agencies in the island, including the UK government’s Police Scotland, to suspend assistance until the Rajapaksa government takes concrete steps to investigate police abuses.
