Military refused to allow the journalist in Mullaitheevu

Travel restrictions have been imposed in Sri Lanka due to corona infection. In this situation, despite the issuing of travel permits to those including essential services and journalists, the harassment of journalists by the military has increased in the Mullaitheevu district.

Journalists, especially those going to the Mullaitivu town area to cover the news, are detained at the soldiers’ street check post in the third block of the Mulliyawalai police division. The military in the area is detaining and deporting journalists, especially with the permission of the police.

The military has banned journalists from moving into the town but on the other hand, others involved in essential services are allowed to the Mullaitheevu district.
