Easter Sunday attack: MP Rishad Bathiudeen remanded till the end of trial

Former Minister and Vanni district MP Rishad Bathiudeen, arrested and detained by Sri Lanka’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in connection with a case related to the Easter Sunday attack, has been remanded until the end of the trial.

The CID arrested MP Bathiudeen on 24 April 2021. It had obtained court permission to detain and question under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) on charges of aiding and abetting the Easter Sunday attackers.

Investigations are underway into the issuance of a license to the copper factory of Inshaf Ahmed, the bomber who carried out the suicide bombing at the Cinnamon Grand Hotel on Easter Sunday, 21 April 2019, while Rishad Bathiudeen was a minister, Colombo Page reported.
