Convicted murderer Duminda Silva meets Rajapaksa after pardon

Former Parliamentarian and convicted murderer Duminda Silva, released recently after a special pardon granted by Gotabaya Rajapksa, met Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa at the official residence yesterday.

The pictures posted on Duminda Silva’s Facebook page has confirmed his meeting with Mahinda Rajapaksa.

“Presidential pardon of Duminda Silva, a former MP convicted of the murder of a fellow politician, is another example of selective, arbitrary granting of pardons that weakens rule of law and undermines accountability,” Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights said at that time.

Duminda Silva was serving a death sentence for the 2011 murder of Parliamentarian Bharatha Lakshman Premachandra and three of his bodyguards. Duminda Silva was a close associate of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, the then Defence Secretary.
