Australians are marching in support of a Sri Lankan Tamil asylum seeker family that urged the Australian Government to permanently allow them to stay in Australia.

“About 100 people gathered in the Perth CBD on Saturday to stand in solidarity with the Murugappan family, whose visas are set to expire in less than three weeks,” Australian Media ABC reported.

The family has been fighting against their deportation to Sri Lanka for more than three years.

“It is absolutely urgent. At the moment, they are suffering a great deal. If they are sent back to Sri Lanka having gone through all these difficulties here, it would be the most inhumane act if they’re sent back,” Tamil spokesperson and family friend, Rama Somasunderam said.
