U.S. forces launched a drone strike in Kabul on Sunday that killed a suicide car bomber suspected of preparing to attack the airport, U.S. officials said, as the United States nears the end of its military presence in the city, Reuters reported.
“Significant secondary explosions from the vehicle indicated the presence of a substantial amount of explosive material,” US Central Command spokesperson Bill Urban said.
Earlier, the US warned of a “specific, credible threat” near Kabul airport as its forces rush to complete evacuations from Afghanistan by the August 31 deadline.
