Tamils commemorate Great Heroes’ week

Sri Lankan Tamils start to pay homage to the freedom fighters of the Sri Lankan civil war to mark Maaveerar week.

Maveerar Naal (Great Heroes’ Day) is observed across the world to remember the cadres of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) who lost their lives during the civil war in the island nation.

The day was chosen as it was on November 27 that the first LTTE cadre Shangar died in combat in 1982.
