Tamil older woman injured in a bomb explosion

Indra Mariyarathinam, a 66-year-old elderly mother, was injured when a bomb exploded near her house in Puthukkudiyiruppu, Northern Province.

The unexploded bomb has exploded on Tuesday evening when she involves in the cleaning of dried coconut leaves and set fire to it. The incident happened in the land adjacent to her house in the Puthukkudiyiruppu Iranaipalai area.

The Sri Lankan police at Puthukkudiyiruppu have initiated investigations into the accident blast. The area where the explosion occurred has marked as a danger zone. Following the court order, the police have taken steps to examine other explosives in the zone.

Puthukkudiyiruppu was a significant area heavily damaged in Sri Lanka’s genocidal war on Tamils that ended in 2009.
