Sri Lanka’s Forest dept occupying the grazing lands in Mannar

Tamil cattle farmers have alleged Sri Lanka’s Department of Wildlife and Forest Conservation has occupied grazing lands in the coastal area of Mannar Naruvilikulam.

For many years, people in nearby villages utilizing the lands from Naruvilikulam coastal areas to Achchankulam forest area for grazing their cattle.  

For the past couple of years, the Department of Wildlife and Forest Conservation has occupied the grazing lands by fencing them.

Sources said that the forest department is also filing cases against cattle farmers if their cattle entered the fenced areas.
