Sri Lanka has turned to China for diplomatic purposes -HRW

John Sifton, Human Rights Watch’s regional director for Asia, said the Sri Lankan government had turned to China to seek a diplomatic screen to cover up its worst laws and policies, adding that Sri Lanka’s most important economic relations were with the United States, the European Union and India.

John Sipton, Asia director for Human Rights Watch, urged the United States to use it to apply pressure in various ways to ensure accountability for the worst human rights abuses in Sri Lanka.

He further added that the United States must continue to press for the amendment or complete abolition of the PTA.
