Sri Lanka gets free rice from China for 5 months

As Sri Lankan government requests the Chinese government has decided to supply 10 metric tonnes of rice to Sri Lanka for free.

This has been informed by the Chinese Ambassador to Sri Lanka to Finance Minister Basil Rajapaksa. The consignment is believed to be sufficient for five months of consumption.

Meanwhile, India has offered a new Line of Credit (LOC) of USD 500 million to Sri Lanka for purchase of petroleum products.

Indian External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar extended this critical support in his letter addressed to the Sri Lankan Foreign Minister of Sri Lanka, Prof. G.L. Peiris.

Recently India had extended foreign exchange support of over USD 900 million to Sri Lanka.
