Mano Ganesan, a Member of Parliament and leader of the Tamil Progressive Alliance, urged the Indian government to provide citizenship for the Sri Lankan Tamil refugees.
“Lankan Tamil refugees in special camps since 80s are entitled to be treated as the Tibetan refugees in #India. I call upon the Government of India to provide Indian citizenship enabling them to live outside camps as 40+ years are fair by all human considerations,” MP Mano Ganesan tweeted.
For the past many days, Sri Lankan Tamil refugees detained in Tamil Nadu’s Trichy special camp are staging a series of protests demanding to release them from the prolonged detention.
