New Zealand: Sri Lankan national inspired by IS involved in terror attack

An extremist inspired by the Islamic State group has involved in the knife attack, in which six people were wounded at an Auckland supermarket.

Three of the shoppers were taken to Auckland hospitals in critical condition, police said. Another was in serious condition, while two more were in moderate condition, Associated Press reported.

New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said that the incident was a terror attack. The man was a Sri Lankan national inspired by the Islamic State group and was well known to the nation’s security agencies.

The attack happened today at about 2:40 p.m. at a Countdown supermarket in New Zealand’s largest city.
