Jaffna University initiates organic paddy cultivation

A traditional paddy harvesting day was organized by the faculty at integrated farm and training centre, Parasankulum, Puliyankulum on 09th February 2022.   Jaffna University Vice-Chancellor Prof. S. Srisatkunarajah has graced the occasion as the chief guest. Staff, students and officers from the Department of Agriculture have participated in this function. 

This paddy was cultivated without adding any inorganic fertilizers as 100 per cent organic. Compost developed by the Department of Agricultural Chemistry by using locally available resources from an undergraduate research project was used as the main source of nutrients for this paddy cultivation.
