Sri Lanka’s High Commissioner to India Milinda Moragoda met with the Deputy National Security Advisor of India Shri Pankaj Saran, on 27 November 2021 at the National Security Council office in New Delhi, Sri Lankan high commission said in a statement.
Deputy National Security Advisor Saran cordially welcomed High Commissioner Moragoda and had an extensive discussion with him. The discussion between the Deputy National Security Advisor of India and the High Commissioner of Sri Lanka focused on a range of issues pertaining to mutual strategic interests, including those that are related to economic cooperation.
High Commissioner Moragoda also presented the Deputy National Security Advisor with a copy of his policy road map “Integrated Country Strategy for Sri Lanka Diplomatic Missions in India 2021/2023”.
A member of the Indian Foreign Service, Shri Pankaj Saran had served as India’s Ambassador to Russia and High Commissioner to Bangladesh prior to being appointed as the Deputy National Security Advisor in May 2018, the statement further said.
Meantime, a two-day trilateral maritime drill conducted by the coast guards of India, Sri Lanka and the Maldives to bolster security in the Indian Ocean, enhance mutual operational capability and exercise interoperability between these three countries culminated in the Maldives on Sunday (28), the Indian High Commission said.
The 15th edition of the trilateral engagement termed “Dosti” is conducted biennially, and 2021 marks 30 years since these maritime drills were first introduced.
Sri Lanka is trying to join a future China-India-Russia triangular joint security programme to retain its Sinhala majority power.
