India’s Adani and Sri Lanka signs Colombo port deal

India’s Adani Group has signed an agreement with John Keells Holdings, and the Sri Lanka Ports Authority to jointly develop the West Container Terminal (WCT) of the Colombo Port.

Earlier this year, Sri Lankan President and accused war criminal  Gotabaya Rajapaksa announced the involvement of the India’s Adani Group in the WCT, after India and Japan ejecting from the East Container Terminal (ECT) project. The objection from trade unions and Buddhist monks said as the reason for that ejection.

According to The Hindu, Colombo pitched the WCT project as a “compromise”, while the Indian role in the WCT project, through investment from Adani Group, is said to be “strictly private sector”, unlike the proposed ECT that entailed governmental involvement.
