Green Peace Awards – Students receiving the leading award

The Green National Peace Awards Ceremony of the Tamil National Green Movement for the year 2021 was held at the Veerasingam Hall, Jaffna on Sunday (30).

The Tamil National Green Movement last year conducted a national environmental awareness test among students nationwide.

Students from all districts of Sri Lanka participated and were honored by presenting the Green Peace Awards at the event as the first three students to obtain extra points in the examination.

Along with these, a number of students who have received Special Awards and Excellence Awards have been honored with Green Peace Certificates.

Sivakaran Abhisairam of Mahajana College, Jaffna won the gold medal, Shanmuhi Karunanidhi of Vembadi Girl’s College, Jaffna won the silver medal and Diluksini Dunsran of St. Joseph’s College, Batticaloa won the bronze medal.

These awards are presented in memory of Ecology teacher KC Kukadasan. Maheswaranathan Grison from Allaipiddy, a organic farmer, received the Green Peace Award for Best Eco Activist for 2021.

In addition to the award presented in memory of M.K. Kanagarasa, a one hundred thousand rupees pottery was also presented.

Vice Chancellor of Vavuniya University Dr. T. Mangaleswaran was the Chief Guest at the function held yesterday under the chairmanship of P. Ayngaranesan, Leader of the Tamil National Green Movement.

Also present as special guests were Dr. S.J Arasakesari, Additional Director, Northern Agricultural Research Division and A.M Riyas Ahmed, Senior Lecturer, Southeastern University.

The festival and awards ceremony are sponsored by the Tamil Diaspora Alliance.
