The forcible land occupation problems in Mayilathamadu, Mathavani of Batticaloa district, have been there for the past few years. Such issues around the grazing lands still continue in these areas, in which Sinhala settlers are actively involved in the attempt of grabbing lands.
Batticaloa Governor has given the Tamils’ lands to Sinhala settlers for farming activities.
Tamil National Alliance’s Member of Parliament Sumanthiran and advocate Sukas has filed a case in the court and obtained a stay order to restrict further occupation. But the Sinhala settlers’ continued to occupy the grazing lands of Tamils.
Due to such occupation, Tamil cattle farmers facing the risk of livelihood, and the cattle have died without proper food.
