Facebook post on film about ‘Prabhakaran’: Sri Lanka arrests youth under Terrorism Act

A youth from Trincomalee, who had posted a comment on Facebook praising Tamil Eelam national leader V Prabhakaran, has been arrested by the Police Crime Branch under the Terrorism Act.

The arrested person was working as a three-wheeler driver in the Trincomalee area of Eastern Province.

Sri Lankan Police media spokesperson confirmed the arrest, says that he had made posts that would disrupt national unity and was considered a crime under the Prevention of Terrorism Act and the International Law for Political and Civil Rights.

Sources said that the youth was arrested for sharing a post on Facebook related to the film ‘Methagu.’ The film depicts the events in the earlier stages of the Tamil Eelam liberation struggle and talks about how and why charismatic leader Prabhakaran emerged.
