Ebrahim raised his voice against violations of human rights

It is with a heavy heart, that the British Tamils Forum (BTF) and the Solidarity Group for Peace and Justice (SGPJ) express deep condolences to the family of the late Comrade Ebrahim Ebrahim, the African National Congress (ANC), the government and the people of South Africa on the demise of the apartheid veteran Comrade Ebrahim Ismail Ebrahim.

In an effort to stop the genocidal war in the North East of Sri Lanka that was at its height in 2009, the BTF delegation visited South Africa and met with the ANC, the South African Government, Comrade Ebrahim Ismail Ebrahim (Ebi), the head of Foreign Affairs in the ANC and other officials. Following this engagement the ANC released a statement for an immediate ceasefire asking the Sri Lankan government to stop the war and to avoid further calamities. The South African government also released a statement following this.

Comrade Ebrahim Ismail Ebrahim was closely involved with the situation in Sri Lanka, and voiced his concern from time to time about the violations and abuses of human rights against the Tamils. The British Tamils Forum (BTF) and Solidarity Group for Peace and Justice (SGPJ – South Africa) will remember Comrade Ebi for his solidarity with the struggle of the oppressed communities of Sri Lanka. He played a role in assisting with the evacuation of people who fled their homeland to avoid persecution from the murderous Sri Lankan regime, which conducted a war against its own people. Many of these people have settled in South Africa and continue to live there as refugees.

Rest well Comrade Ebi!!!
