Tamil and Muslim political parties met in Jaffna yesterday for discussions and demand for full implementation of the 13A, conduct the PC Elections and dismiss BBS General Secretary Ganansara Thero as the Chairman of the newly formed Presidential Task Force to draft the proposals for One Country, One Law.
Leaders of Tamil parties and the President of the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress were met, and some important decisions were taken at a meeting held in Jaffna on Tuesday (2) chaired by Rauf Hakeem, President of the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress and Member of Parliament.
While emphasizing that the long-standing political solution of the Tamil-speaking people must be in a way that satisfies their political aspirations, we have stated at the outset that in view of the various problems that our people continue to face, the following resolutions must be passed immediately.
The 13th Amendment must be fully implemented. Also, elections for provincial councils should be held as soon as possible.All planned and expropriated land grabs in the North and Eastern Provinces by the government and with the support of the government must be stopped immediately.The prevention of terrorism act (PTA) should be lifted and all those detained under it should be released.
It has been stated that we categorically reject the newly formed Presidential Task Force to draft the proposals for One Country, One Law.
At the end of the resolutions, it is stated that our next meeting will be held within two weeks so that all parties can also attend.
The resolutions were jointly issued by the Tamil Eelam Liberation Organization, the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress, the Tamil Progressive Alliance, the People’s Liberation Organization of Tamil Eelam, the Tamil People’s Alliance, the Eelam People’s Revolutionary Liberation Front and the Tamil people National Alliance.
The meeting was attended by Sri Lanka Muslim Congress President and Member of Parliament Rauf Hakeem, Leader of the Tamil Progressive Alliance and Member of Parliament Mano Ganesan, President of the People’s Liberation Organization of Tamil Eelam, Member of Parliament Dharmalingam Siddharthan, Leader of the Tamil Eelam Liberation Organization; Selvam Adikalanath and lawyer Srikantha, Eelam People’s Revolutionary Liberation Front leader and former Member of Parliament Suresh Premachandran, Secretary General of the Tamil People’s National Alliance, former Justice and Member of Parliament CV Vigneswaran, Prof. Sivanathan, National Organizer of the Tamil Eelam Liberation Organization and media spokesperson Kuruswamy Surendran were present.
