Child exploitation case: Former Maldives minister, politicians, monk arrested in Sri Lanka 

Colombo, Sri Lanka: A former Maldives State Minister for Finance and Treasury Mohamed Ashmalee, several politicians from Sri Lanka’s ruling party, a Buddhist monk, a prominent gem dealer and a merchant navy captain arrested in the child exploitation case. 

 A Sri Lankan court today ordered to remand the minister until the 16th of July. 

The Sri Lankan Police said that 32 suspects have been arrested so far over the exploitation and rape of the 15-year-old girl.

According to the police, the suspect had placed various advertisements on social media and sold the girl to third parties daily for the money.
