Bill on privatizing, militarizing education will not take for debate: Chamal Rajapaksa

Colombo, Sri Lanka: While the protests against General Sir John Kotelawala National Defence University Bill has taking place around the island, the State Defense Minister Chamal Rajapaksa informed the parliament today that the government would not debate the Bill this week.

Daily Mirror reported that Chamal Rajapaksa told this in parliament, responding to a question raised by UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe, who asked whether the Bill would be taken up for debate this Friday.

The Minister said the Bill would not be debated as he deemed that the MPs and people needed more time to express their comments and opinions on the Bill. However, he said the Bill would be taken for debate later.
