An attention rally was held in Kilinochchi yesterday (18) demanding increase in commodity prices and restriction of paddy marketing within the district. The rally was organized by the Kilinochchi District Women’s Civil Society Network.
The women who were involved in the scuffle at the Kilinochchi Depot Junction went through the A9 road to the Kilinochchi District secretary office.
The letter was read out in the presence of the Kilinochchi District Government Agent and handed over to the Government Agent.
The protesters urged the government not to market the paddy to the outer districts as it is being harvested in the Kilinochchi district and is taking steps to store it inside the district.
Meanwhile, the protesters stressed that the people are facing great challenges due to the rising prices of goods in the country.
