Arrested Lankan activist tests positive for Covid-19

Sri Lankan political activist Koshila Hansamali Perera, jailed for protesting against General Sir John Kotelawala National Defence University (KDU) Bill, tested positive for the COVID-19.

“Political activist Koshila Hansamali Perera, arrested on 3 August for participating in a protest against militarising education has been tested positive for #COVID19. Her family urges #SriLanka Prison authorities to provide her with proper medical care as she suffers from asthma,” Journalists for Democracy in Sri Lanka tweeted.

The students and teachers communities around the island nation oppose the Kotelawala National Defence University (KNDU) Bill. They fear that the bill could pave the way for privatization of the higher education sector and militarisation of universities.
