Another maid sexually abused at MP’s Bathiudeen residence: Sri Lankan Police

Out of eleven women, who served as domestic aides at former Minister and Member of Parliament Rishad Bathiudeen’s residence since 2010, three including the 16-year-old maid Ishalini have died, Sri Lankan Police Media Spokesperson Senior DIG Ajith Rohana said.

This has been revealed during the investigation conducted by the officers of the Colombo South Divisional Crime Investigation unit led by Chief Inspector Waruni Bogahawatte regarding ten women who worked at the MP’s house, Colombo Page reported.

Accordingly, in addition to the 16-year-old girl, who died of burn injuries while working at the MP’s residence, another servant has died of an illness. Another woman has committed suicide after leaving the employment, police spokesman Senior DIG Ajith Rohana said.

Meanwhile, another woman who worked in the house had given a statement to the police yesterday (01) that the brother of Bathiudeen’s wife had sexually abused her. She is a resident of the Dayagama area, and she has stated this during the interrogation carried out after she was found in the Kelaniya area.

Accordingly, Chief Inspector Waruni Bogahawatte visited Rishad Bathiudeen’s residence at Bauddhaloka Mawatha yesterday (1) afternoon with the woman. The police team searched certain places in the house shown by the victim.
Bathiudeen’s brother-in-law was arrested on July 23 in connection with the rape of another maid who was employed at the Bathiudeen residence between 2015 and 2019 before the arrival of the teenaged maid.
