The 25th anniversary of the killing of Tamil schoolgirl Krishanthi Kumaraswamy commemorated on September 7th at Jaffna, Northern Province. The girl was kidnapped, gang raped and brutally murdered by Sri Lankan soldiers in 1996, the incident also referred to as the Chemmani massacre.
“25th anniversary of the murder of Krishanthi Kumaraswamy, who was killed by Sri Lanka army along with her mother, brother and a neighbour, was held at the office premises of #Tamil National Party, on Tuesday (Sept. 7) in the coastal town of Valvettithurai, Jaffna,” JDS Lanka tweeted.
JDS Lanka further tweets that Krishanthy, an 18 year old student of Chundikuli Girls High School, Jaffna was stopped at a army check-post in Kaithady on her way from school on 07.09.1996 & raped by at least 9 soldiers before she was murdered.
“Krishanthi’s mother K. Rasamma (59), vice-principal of Kaithady MV, who went in search of her daughter accompanied by her brother Pranaban (16) &neighbour, Kirupakaran Sithamparan (35) were also murdered by the same soldiers.”
