Unidentified persons damaged the statues in catholic chapels located at three places in the Mannar police division early this morning.
It is reported that the two statues in the Mannar Vayal street and one statue on the Main Street at Pallimunai in Mannar have been damaged with stones.
The Mannar police are conducting further inquiries after a complaint was filed. In the last three days, six Catholic chapels have been damaged.
Mannar is one of the districts situated in the Tamil majority Northern Province of Sri Lanka. It is to be noted that the attacks are occurring in the region, where many Sri Lankan Army, Naval, Air Force camps are located.
