Jaffna, July 31 – Journalists staged a protest in front of the Jaffna District Secretariat on Friday (31), demanding impartial investigations into the killings of journalists, attacks on media institutions, and other acts of violence against media personnel.
The demonstration coincided with the two-day visit of Deputy Minister of Mass Media Dr. Kausalya Ariyaratne to Jaffna, where she is participating in a series of official events.
The protest took place as the Deputy Minister was scheduled to attend a seminar for journalists at the Jaffna District Secretariat.
Journalists affiliated with the Jaffna Media Centre boycotted the seminar in support of the protest, calling on the authorities to ensure independent and transparent investigations into unresolved cases involving journalists and attacks on the media.
The protesters reiterated their demand for justice, accountability, and greater protection for media freedom.
