Jaffna, July 30 – Catholic priests staged a protest on Wednesday morning in front of the Sithupathi Hindu Cemetery in Ariyalai, calling for justice over the Chemmani mass grave and urging authorities to ensure a transparent and credible investigation.
The demonstration was organized to express solidarity with the families of the disappeared and to demand accountability for those believed to have been buried in the Chemmani mass grave.
Holding placards and offering prayers, the priests called for the truth to be uncovered and for justice to be delivered to the victims and their relatives. They stressed that the ongoing investigations should be conducted independently and without interference to establish the identities of those buried at the site.
The clergy also appealed to the government and relevant authorities to expedite the investigation, preserve all available evidence, and ensure that those responsible for past atrocities are held accountable in accordance with the law.
The protest took place peacefully in front of the Sithupathi Hindu Cemetery, where participants reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the families seeking truth, justice, and accountability.
