Russia says Ukraine launched one of its largest overnight drone attacks of the war, with hundreds of unmanned aerial vehicles targeting Moscow and surrounding regions.
According to Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin, Russian air defences intercepted at least 81 drones over the Moscow region. Russian officials say more than 390 drones were launched toward the capital between 8:30 p.m. and 6:30 a.m., with the majority reportedly destroyed before reaching the city.
Moscow Region Governor Andrei Vorobyov said the attacks caused damage at several locations across the region.
In the city of Chekhov, a drone struck an apartment building on Zemskaya Street, prompting a response from emergency services. Authorities said casualty information was still being verified.
Officials also reported:
- A fire involving tyres in an open area after drone debris fell, which was quickly extinguished.
- A private house catching fire in the Dubrava dacha community near Vaulevo. Authorities said no one was inside the home at the time, and the fire was contained.
- Damage to a summer house in the Romashkino dacha community near Dubna after it was hit by drone fragments. No injuries were reported.
Russian officials added that air defence systems intercepted dozens of additional drones over the districts of Domodedovo, Podolsk, Ramenskoye, and Kolomna.
The claims have not been independently verified, and Ukrainian authorities had not immediately commented on the reported operation at the time of publication.
If confirmed, the attack would rank among the largest drone assaults on the Moscow region since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, reflecting Kyiv’s continued effort to strike military and strategic targets deep inside Russian territory.
